Gab's Web 2.0

What is Web 2.0?
Glad you asked. Basically it's the 'second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites (Myspace, Facebook), wikis (Wikipedia) and folksonomies (Flickr and del.icio.us)— which aim to facilitate collaboration and sharing between users.'

Gab's Web 2.0
Here are a list of web 2.0 websites I use and probably couldn't live without in the information age we live in. If you haven't checked out these websites out you really should because they make life so much easier.

Facebook.com
Facebook is online social-networking at its best. First it was Myspace with its original layout and addictive commenting. But now its Facebook with its even more addicitve applications and networking.

Netvibes.com (RSS feeds)
If you haven't heard of RSS feeds your missing out big time. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndications. And it really is that simple. So basically RSS feeds are an internet distribution system.

Wikipedia.org
A great souce of information, although people can get skeptical to wikipedia's sources. That is why you must be skeptical to all information from wikipedia and

Gmail.com
I switched to gmail along time ago and haven't looked back. I've used hotmail, gmail and yahoo (in that order) and gmail has been the most efficient and least time wasting email service. Everyone knows sorting out your email can be a waste of time and that is why I recommend gmail because it has the best spam filters. Also signing up for gmail is free and doesn't require an invite.

Blogger.com
I use blogger to blog. Simple as that. Blogger is a great website to blog about anything.

Answers.com
If you need answers and fast, answers.com is faster than google. Also with Alt-click you can hold down alt then click the word you are unsure of and a definition window will come giving you the answers you want.

- Will finish this blog tommorrow.

Rejuvenating Massage

What happens when you get a rejuvenating massage? You go door knocking for the 40 Hour Famine!

Sam's Chinese Medicine Clinic
Suit 2, Shop 23, Railway Pde, Glen Waverley, VIC 3150

It is located at the back of the East-West Hair Dresser Shop with entry via the O'Sullivan car park.

Finding the place is like panning for gold. But when you find the place and get Uncle Sam's massage, it reinvigorates you to keep at it. On that day after my massage, I door knocked and raised a whopping $88. I think I'll need another one.

Skeptical Scammer

Indian Scammer - S
Gabriel - G

*Ring Ring*

*In strong Indian accent
S: Hello, how are you?

G: How are you? (questioning her bad English)

S: Yes, today you have been picked as a winner of a Plasma screen TV with surround sound and a camera with 20 megapixels with 3x optic zoom...

*Cuts in*
G: Um... I have a question.

S: Oh yes, what is your question?

G: I will be doing the 40 hour famine in August this year. By sponsoring me, you will be helping the kids in India who work everyday without any pay. This is called child exploitation. So by contributing 2 dollars ...

*Cuts in*
S: You have a problem.

G: No, I don't have a problem.

S: Yes, you have a problem.

G: No, I think you have a problem because you think I have a problem which makes you have a problem and therefore I don't have a problem.

*Pause for a second*

*Curses under her breath*
S: Idiot..

G: Bye bye

*Hangs up*

This conversation happened today. What my point is, is that people are skeptical about my goal of $1000. So please don't be like this skeptical scammer and contribute your $2 dollars today. :]

40 Hour Famine Mission

IT IS ON! This is my first 40 Hour Famine, but this is no ordinary 40 Hour Famine. This is a once in a life time opportunity. My target is $1000. It's a high target but it is possible.

The Plan
If 500 people give me $2 in the next 2 weeks, I just need to ask 35 people everyday for the next 2 weeks. (Do the maths; $70 a day for 14 days is $980). So by just contributing $2, you are supporting my cause in a significant way.

So far people have been encouraging but also skeptical to my goal of $1000. This skepticism could hold me back but I am using it as a tool to defy what others say. Since I will have to ask 500 people, I will ask for sponsors at:
  • School
  • Work
  • Church
  • St. John Ambulance Volunteering
  • Break class
If you want to contribute your 2 dollars I will gladly appreciate it. Like I say, 2$ can go very far from 500 people. Also please tell your friends about my cause and spread the word. I will go door knocking too.

Also you can sponsor me online simply by visiting the World Vision 40 Hour Famine website (http://www.40hourfamine.com.au) and click on Donate Now.

When the donation form asks you for the Famine Number, please enter 281333484. This makes sure that the donation is recorded against my name and that I'm sent a record of your donation.

You can also go directly to the donate screen by clicking here https://famine.worldvision.com.au/famine.cgi?a=SPONSOR_&pn=281333484

Wish me luck.

St. John Ambulance Volunteer

On Wednesday, I went to a St. John Ambulance meeting in Mount Waverley for volunteering in the Monash district. It was my first time and it was an awkward experience as I knew no one. As I entered the room, I felt a bit out of place as most of the cadets were not of my age (younger then me). Then randomly an old friend arrived. It's funny due to the fact that we go back ages; in fact back to Grade 5. After that I felt a bit more relaxed. Although, I intended to go to the meeting to meet new people.

It was okay because my old friend introduced me to his friends. We learned DR. ABC. Here's how to save someone's life using DR. ABC

D - Dangers; Check for dangers
R - Response; Cows
A - Airways; Check airways
B - Breathing
C - Circulation

It was an enjoyable experience as I got to meet new people and relearn first aid. I can't wait to get my First Aid Certificate again. I will soon be a St. John Ambulance Volunteer; aka a Johno.
